“Pieces of Scheherazade” has been selected for inclusion in Best American Fantasy, a prestigious new annual anthology from Prime Books, edited by Matthew Cheney and guest edited by Ann & Jeff VanderMeer. It’s due out in June 2007, but you can check it out here from Amazon. Just going by the list of honorable mentions, I’m honestly pretty shocked (to say nothing of flattered) at the sort of company my story is keeping, but at the same time I’m led to believe this will be a very impressive collection.
Issue 12 of Rhapsoidia (whose site is down due to their temporary hiatus, but which used to be, and might one day be again, www.rhapsoidia.com) is out, and my story, “Yell Alley,” is in it. Unfortunately, due to their site being down, the issue is difficult to get one’s hands on, but the zine is overall an interesting read, and I’d say it’s worth finding. Let’s hope their hiatus is, as they say, a temporary one, and they’ll be back on track with issue #13 soon.
Thanks to Sheryl Tempchin, editor of Zahir, who has nominated “Pieces of Scheherazade” for next year’s Pushcart Prize. Results of the nomination will be available in late April, and the annual anthology The Pushcart Prize: Best of the Small Presses will be published in the autumn of 2007.
My second published short story, “Yell Alley,” will appear in Rhapsoidia #12, due out in November 2006. Thanks to Jennifer Redelle Carey, Rhaps fiction editor, who promised she would cry if the story had been accepted elsewhere.
My short story “Pieces of Scheherazade” will appear in Zahir #9 , edited by Sheryl Tempchin. The issue’s set to appear sometime in February 2006.
